3 simple tests on how to choose a great yoga mat
When buying a yoga mat be sure to get the best quality. A good mat will enhance your practice, a cheap mat will degrade it. Hence, it is important that you get a great yoga mat.
You need to ask the following important questions when buying a yoga mat are:
* Will it hold up to repeated washings?
* Will it lay flat on the floor and not stick to my feet?
* Will lint and dust shake off easily?
* Does it prevent my feet from slipping?
* Will it still have the same grip when I sweat?
* Is it light-weight for carrying?
* Does the lifespan of the mat compare favorably?
After asking those questions, use the 3 simple Comparison Tests below that will help you in quality determination.
1. The Pinch Test
Compare compression resistance by pinching the mat between thumb and forefinger.
2. The Quarter Test
Compare durability by rubbing mat samples with the edge of a quarter until the surface breaks down. Count the strokes. More strokes means longer life.
3. The Wet Friction Test
Compare wet traction by moistening your hand to simulate sweating. Bear down laterally on the the mat surfaces.
